Notes:

after a couple of days tinkering my new gaming laptop, it has reached to the point that there is practically nothing i can do to improve it anymore. After upgrading the hard disk to a Solid State Disk, everything just seems to work perfectly. I also managed to upgrade it to Windows 10, so that’s really good too.

Which leaves me with…. nothing else to do.

I’m not much of a gamer. I do tend more on RPG, but i haven’t been in a gaming mode since.

Anyways, i think i’ll share instead on some must-have programs that i can recommend for a windows machine.

1st on my list would be Ad Muncher. This is a really excellent program that blocks ad in the internet. Mind you, this WAS a paid software, but the author decided to make it free. This way, i don’t have to install any adblock extensions for the browser.

2nd on my list would be a media player. The majority of the folks would recommend VLC, but personally, i would rather choose Pot Player. Excuse the lame naming, but to give a background, this was formerly known as KMPlayer. (Waaahhhhtt???!) Now you might be confused since there is also a software known as KMPlayer. Well, to make the story short, KMPlayer was acquired by Pandora TV (a Korean streaming video company) in August 2007. The original author decides to continue to develop his software, but can no longer use the original name. Hence, Pot Player. *hint* KMplayer has a really good playlist for Kpop music videos. If you’re into Kpop, you might want to give it a try.

3rd would be a good music app. Personally, i have been using Spotify as my main music player. You have instant playlists, and access to new songs, and much more. And if you’re not sold on streaming music, and prefer to download and play them in your setup, i guess… windows media player is decent enough? Truth be told, i personally use Foobar due to its level of customization available to it.

4th would be an archiving program, and 7zip is decent enough for the majority of my needs.

Those 4 programs are basically the essentials that i require for my setup.

As for the rest, well you can check the out if you want to.

For virtual CDs, Virtual CloneDrive from Elaborate Bytes is usually enough for my needs. Some prefer daemon tools though.

For discreet bandwidth monitoring, there’s Bitmeter OS. Though i have to let you know, that you can to the same using the windows built-in resource monitor for that. (Just search for “resource monitor” on the start menu).

For images and the like, i have been using FastStone Image Viewer for a few years now, due to its ease of access on doing simple edits like resize, or edits and the like.

Bonus recommendation is RIOT or Radical Image Optimization Tool. If you want to compress your image files, then this tool is highly recommended.

That’s it.

Oh, and another bonus recommendation is a specific extension that works in Chrome Browser, that is also a really good adblocker, as well as an element hiding feature. Stands can be a supplement for your adblocking needs. Sadly, it supports only one browser, for now.

This… has taken too long..
